Heavy rains in the Chicago area led to some flooding issues around the region, including on the CTA Red Line.
A flood advisory was issued after 1-to-2 inches of rain fell in a short timeframe in Chicago and several suburbsNBC 5 Storm Team Chief Meteorologist Brant Miller has an update on the severe weather threat, including the potential of damaging winds and possible tornadoes.
Heavy rains in the Chicago area led to some flooding issues around the region, including on the CTA Red Line. According to the CTA, trains on the Red Line are still operating, but they will not be stopping at the North/Clybourn stop due to flooding. The delay could be a lengthy one for passengers hoping to use that station, and the CTA has requested shuttle service between Fullerton and Clark/Division due to the issues. Around 1-to-2 inches of rain fell in the city of Chicago and some suburbs on Sunday night as a round of showers and thunderstorms powered their way through the area, sparking a severe thunderstorm warning in parts of Cook and Will counties. More rain could fall as showers continue to push through the area, with an additional 0.5-to-1 inch of rain possible, and as a result the National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for DuPage, Cook and Will counties in Illinois, as well as Lake County in Indiana, until 9:30 p.m. Flooding is possible in low drainage or urban areas, and several intersections in Chicago were at least partially covered by water because of the heavy rains. The heavy rain also impacted the suburbs, as two left lanes of the westbound side of Interstate 80 were blocked by standing water near River Road, according to Total Traffic.
