Float the River introduces ecotourism to Northeast Ohio along the Cuyahoga River.

It was surprisingly hard to navigate an innertube to get a good angle for a photo opportunity during Float the River.CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio – Trickling water tickled my toes and the sun warmed my face. The humming wings of dragonflies was the soundtrack of my afternoon, interrupted by a sudden bump; ducks on a log in the middle of the Cuyahoga River. After a tumultuous 2024 so far, I needed a retreat. I found it drifting along the Cuyahoga River.

“Let all your worries float away,” the college-aged crew member yelled out as we drifted away. “And look out for beavers and a heron who lives around here.”Deep breaths greeted the smell of wild flowers and fresh water cooling our hands and feet, which sometimes would be surprised by a tangle of seaweed.

As we rolled along the river, I spotted a beaver paddling alongside a log and the aforementioned heron standing as still and silent as a statue, unlike the geese that made their presence known with honks. Ducks bobbed their heads for food and bathed an arms-length away. I thought I could probably pet them but I decided to let nature be, a big reason why I chose Float the River for my summer camp activity.

We were then escorted to a shuttle that transported us back to our cars at the beginning of the float.
