Lows will drop into the 10s and 20s across Southcentral over the next few mornings as snow moves into the north.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - There‘s a chill in the air across the state, as colder air continues southward across Alaska . Temperatures this morning are hovering well below freezing for many locations, with a few areas of Southcentral seeing temperatures in the 10s and 20s. The colder weather pattern runs through the weekend before seasonal weather returns.More sunshine is in store today, with two notable changes in the forecast: colder weather and winds set to increase throughout the day.

Stronger winds arrive overnight into Friday, as another upper-level disturbance drives southward into Southcentral. This will help enhance winds, with the strongest winds tomorrow occurring through parts of the Mat-Su Valley. As the Matanuska Winds kick in, there’s the chance for gusts to reach as high as 55 mph Friday. The winds combined with the cold temperatures could keep wind chills in the 10s and 20s for locations with steady, gusty winds.

Be prepared for cold weather to remain into the weekend, with highs dropping into the mid 30s and overnight lows in the 10s and 20s. This cold snap will be brief, as temperatures return to seasonal values by Monday.Rain is building back into the region this morning, with higher elevations of the northern panhandle seeing some areas of wintry mix. Along the Klondike Highway, a few inches of snow can be expected through the afternoon hours.
