Cooler and drier weather is expected Sunday into the start of next week.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The coverage of rain and storms will increase today and Saturday all ahead of a cold front that will sweep across the region. Behind the front will be cooler and dry on Sunday with the more pleasant weather continuing into the start of next week.

Out-the-door this morning expect clouds around. Temperatures are mild in the 60s with patchy fog possible and a light sprinkle here or there. Winds are out of the southwest around 5 mph. The summerlike feeling continues for Friday. Highs will soar into the upper to middle 80s with south winds around 5 to 10 mph, gusting at times. Rain chances are scattered during the day today, as a disturbance pushes near the area. That disturbance will increase rain and rumbles, mainly to our north. There is a risk for a few stronger storms with damaging wind gusts and hail as the primary threats. Lows will be in the 60s with plenty of clouds around and a few leftover showers and storms.Watch the latest live and local weather data below, streaming on WSFA Weather Now! Please note, this stream does not include live severe weather coverage, only data on the latest weather conditions. We will keep with elevated rain and storm chances for the start of the weekend. Expect isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms Saturday. If you don’t see rain, expect a sun and clouds mix with highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s and overnight lows dropping into the 50s. Like today, Saturday could see a few strong to severe storms, with the primary threat being damaging wind gusts and large hail. The culprit of our weekend cooldown and storm threat is a cold front that is projected to sweep across the region. That will bring our temperatures back to seasonal average for this time of the year. Behind the front will also be drier conditions Sunday into the start of next week. Highs will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s Sunday through next Tuesday with plenty of sunshine and a few clouds. Overnight lows will be in the 50s under a clear sky. Clouds build again by midweek next week, with highs in the lower to middle 80s. A few showers will be possible during this time period. Overnight lows will remain in the 50s.GM recalls nearly 600,000 Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC cars due to engine failure risksFirst Alert: Tracking elevated rain chances to start off MayHere is a quick look at the First Alert forecast for Thursday.
