MONTGOMERY, Ala. - A significant weather system is moving into the region Saturday through early Monday morning, bringing widespread rain to central and south Alabama with the potential for strong to severe storms in the southern half of the state Sunday.

We are giving you a First Alert as rain will be heaviest Saturday night through Sunday, with rainfall amounts up to one inch possible. Highs will range from the low 50s in central Alabama to the mid 60s in south Alabama before wet weather returns to the forecast... a big portion of the daytime hours are dry.We are watching for potential strong to severe storms in the southernmost counties of Alabama as we move through Sunday. Highs in the 50s Saturday, rising to the 50s and 60s Sunday before falling through the afternoon... winds could gust as high as 20 mph Sunday afternoon. Southwest Alabama: Showers likely after noon Saturday, with showers and thunderstorms continuing Saturday night and Sunday. Highs in the 60s Saturday, reaching near 70 Sunday with winds gusting as high as 25 mph Sunday afternoon. Southeast Alabama: Mostly cloudy Saturday with highs in the 60s. Showers develop mainly in the afternoon Sunday with a high near 70... south winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts as high as 30 mph Sunday.Once the rain exits early Monday morning, a blast of Arctic air moves in fast. Monday will be mostly sunny but bitterly cold, with highs ranging from the mid 30s to low 40s. Winds will be gusty out of the northwest, making it feel even colder. Lows will plunge into the upper teens to low 20s Monday night. This cold air sticks around through most of next week.For Central Alabama: Rain will be the main concern this weekend. While parts of north Alabama could see a wintry mix, we’re expecting cold rain in our area at this time. However, this remains a highly uncertain and complicated setup.
