According to the U.S. Forest Service, this fire is approximately three miles west of Marysvale, which is about 30 minutes from Richfield. Piute County Commissioner Sam Steed said the fire is impacting Marysvale's tourist community. He said this is an area known for its trails and its history, and he doesn't want people to think it's closed to the public. There are still many trails and businesses open that aren't impacted by the fire, such as the Monroe Mountain area. As far as the historical mining structures deeper in the canyon, Steed said firefighters were stationed near there to save them."They've actually set up pumps and generators, pumping water on these historical sites to save them," he said. "They know how much it means to the area. . . .Everywhere you go, every turn you take in these canyons out here, there's mining history. There's the Paiutetrails.com said: "Marysvale, Utah has a long history in mining. In fact, the town was founded by early silver miners in the 1860’s. Later, in the 1880’s gold was discovered in Bullion Canyon. Marysvale is no longer a mining boomtown, but it has undergone a recent boom in ATV tourism." Steed also mentioned a ghost town near Marysvale, known as Alunite. Bullion Canyon is also a really popular trail for hiking and exploring.
