A firefighter died on Sunday while trying to rescue a mother and child from a car that went into the Elk River., the crash happened in Sutton West Virginia., around 2:30 p.m. The woman and child died.
Braxton County Emergency Services Director John Hoffman told the television station that no names were being released at this time. He confirmed the incident took place a quarter mile north of exit 62 on I-79 and Sutton along the Elk River. No additional details were available including how the car ended up in the water and how the firefighter died.
An investigation by the West Virginia State Police is currently underway and officials said they plan to release additional information later.
