Emergency services were called to the site of Carnbooth House hotel around 8pm on Thursday after a fire broke out at the abandoned building that was once a popular venue.
Emergency services were called to the site of the abandoned Carnbooth House around 8pm on Thursday evening with the situation still ongoing over ten hours later.
Police have closed the Carmunnock Bypass between Busby Road and Carmunnock Road and urged the public to avoid the area.Flames could be seen bursting through the roof of the building before the structure was engulfed by the blaze. The extent of the damage is currently unknown.There are no reports of any casualties at this time.
The large country house was built by architect Alexander Cullen around 1900 and has been empty since 2019 when it closed for refurbishment. We reported in 2018 how permission had been granted to to build 36 flats on its greenbelt grounds by the Planning Local Review Committee. A spokesperson for Scottish Fire and Rescue confirmed that the incident is still ongoing as of 6.30am.
