Four FEMA employees were fired for allegedly making unauthorized payments for migrant housing in luxurious New York City hotels. The dismissals come after Elon Musk's public revelation about FEMA's $59 million expenditure on such accommodations.

Four employees of the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency ( FEMA ) have been dismissed following allegations that they bypassed agency leadership and authorized substantial payments for migrant housing in New York City .

A Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spokesperson confirmed the terminations in a statement to Scripps News, stating, 'Effective immediately, FEMA is terminating the employment of four individuals for circumventing leadership to unilaterally make egregious payments for luxury NYC hotels for migrants.'The terminated employees include FEMA's Chief Financial Officer, two program analysts, and a grant specialist. The spokesperson further emphasized the commitment of DHS, under the leadership of President Trump and Secretary Noem, to preventing individuals from undermining the safety and well-being of the American people. This action follows a public disclosure by billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, who heads the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Musk, through his platform X, revealed on Monday that DOGE had uncovered FEMA's expenditure of $59 million to 'luxury hotels in New York City to house illegal migrants' just last week. He characterized these payments as a violation of the law and a blatant disregard for the President's executive order. Musk asserted that the funds, intended for American disaster relief, were being diverted to accommodate migrants in upscale accommodations. In response to Musk's allegations, Cameron Hamilton, the acting administrator of FEMA, has confirmed that the payments in question have been suspended as of Sunday.
