A federal lawsuit was filed Wednesday morning against Escambia County District Attorney Stephen Billy and Sheriff Heath Jackson accusing them ofover a political dispute. Last year, Sherry Digmon, an Escambia County School Board Member and Atmore News co-owner, Don Fletcher, an Atmore News Reporter, Cindy Jackson, a school board member, and Ashley Fore, a school bookkeeper, were all thrown in the Escambia County Jail accused of violating grand jury secrecy laws.
"Because of the threats that the teachers and the principals had towards them. And when you have principals that are scared, it trickles down to our teachers," said Jackson. Digmon and Fore say they were purposely arrested on a Friday afternoon in an attempt to keep them there over the weekend and humiliated during the intake process at the jail.
