The National Defense Authorization Act requires the government to use, transfer, or donate all excess wall construction materials. An official stated that the materials were divided, with 60% going to authorized recipients and 40% sold to GovPlanet in June. The auctioned pieces were no longer government property. Initially, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick intended to purchase the materials and donate them to the incoming Trump administration. However, he later revealed that the pieces were 'covered in concrete in rust' and 'mostly junk,' deeming it impractical to acquire them. This latest ruling prevents the Biden Administration from selling excess materials or redirecting funds allocated for border wall construction. It doesn't significantly impact the auctioned pieces, as Patrick shared a text message to President-elect Trump stating that Texas is negotiating with the auctioneer to hold those pieces until after the inauguration. President-elect Trump celebrated this on his Truth social site, highlighting it as a 'major, crucial WIN for America.
