Food companies have been given until January 15, 2027, to cease using Red 3, with drugmakers receiving an extension until January 2028. The FDA's decision has prompted a flurry of activity among food manufacturers, many of whom are reformulating their products to comply with the new regulations. Red 3, also known as erythrosine, Acid Red 51, or FD&C Red No. 3, is commonly used in candy and other food products. Companies like Yoo-hoo, Keurig Dr Pepper, Kellogg's, and Nestlé are actively working to replace Red 3 in their beverages, cereals, and other products. Some brands, such as Conagra Brands and McCormick, have already begun the process of removing Red 3 from their products. However, several food brands have yet to publicly comment on their plans to comply with the FDA's ruling. This includes companies like Bazooka Candy, Bimbo Bakeries, Del Monte, Ferrara, Ferrero, General Mills, Krispy Kreme, Mondelez, Smucker, and Tootsie. Consumers are advised to carefully read product labels to determine whether a particular item contains Red 3. The FDA requires companies to list color additives in their ingredients list, and Red 3 must be specifically named. This means it cannot be listed simply as 'artificial colors.'Some popular brands, like Hershey's, Post Consumer Brands, PepsiCo, Mars Wrigley, and J&J Snack Foods, have confirmed that they do not currently use Red 3 in their products
