The FDA authorized an additional dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna Covid-19 vaccines for certain immunocompromised people

The FDA amended the emergency use authorization for the Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna Covid-19 vaccines to allow for an additional dose for certain people with compromised immune systems. That group includes"specifically, solid organ transplant recipients or those who are diagnosed with conditions that are considered to have an equivalent level of immunocompromise," the agency wrote in a statement Thursday.

"No vaccine, at least not within this category, is going to have an indefinite amount of protection," Fauci said. "Inevitably, there will be a time when we'll have to give boosts. What we're doing literally on a weekly and monthly basis is following cohorts of patients to determine if, when and whom should get it. But right now at this moment, other than the immune compromised, we're not going to be giving boosters to people," he said.
