The FBI has released new information regarding the attack at Temple Israel synagogue in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan, labeling it a Hezbollah-inspired act of terrorism. The investigation revealed that Ayman Ghazali, 41, conducted online searches related to firearms and researched the synagogue. He purchased a weapon and ammunition, practiced at a shooting range, and made social media posts and threats before the attack. Ghazali, who was not on a terrorist watch list, sent messages outlining his motives to his sister before the incident. The FBI reviewed hundreds of pieces of evidence and interviewed dozens of people.

After a full-scale investigation, the FBI confirmed the attack to be labeled as a “Hezbollah inspired act of terrorism” against Michigan’s largest Jewish temple. The FBI says that hundreds of digital and forensic pieces of evidence were reviewed and dozens of people were interviewed over the course of the investigation. FBI Detroit said that 41-year-old Ayman Ghazali made multiple searches online related to guns and “shootouts” since January 2026.On March 9th, the FBI says that he began heavily researching Metro Detroit area synagogues and purchased a weapon along with several rounds of ammo. On March 10th, he began to look at the list of events on Temple Israel’s site, went to a shooting range to practicing firing the weapon he purchased the day before, and bought $2,200 worth of fireworks. On March 11th, he made a social media album called “vengeance,” which he added many photos of propaganda and images of his deceased family members to. Later that evening, he purchased two torch lighters, which the FBI believes he used to ignite his truck during the incident. On March 12th, the day of the attack, he made several anti-Israel posts on social media before driving to Temple Israel.
