The FBI announced on Monday that Ayman Ghazali, who drove his pickup truck into Temple Israel synagogue in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan , earlier in March, was motivated by Hezbollah . Jennifer Runyan, head of the FBI in Detroit, stated that Ghazali recorded a video before the attack at the synagogue. In the video, he expressed his desire to “kill as many of them as I possibly can.
” Ghazali, a 41-year-old resident of Dearborn Heights, spent several hours in the synagogue parking lot on March 12 before crashing his vehicle through closed doors and into the early childhood education area. The attack resulted in a security guard being struck. Subsequent to this, Ghazali exchanged gunfire with another guard before taking his own life. The Ford F150, which Ghazali drove, contained commercial-grade fireworks and jugs of gasoline and caught fire during the altercation. Thankfully, no one among the 150 children and staff was injured. \Before the attack, Ghazali was reported by neighbors in Dearborn Heights to have appeared distraught and suicidal, apparently due to the loss of family members in Israeli airstrikes in his native Lebanon, according to 911 audio. These events occurred just days after the start of the Iran-Israel and U.S. war on February 28. Further investigations have unveiled potential connections between Ghazali and Hezbollah, as National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard informed a Senate committee about Ghazali's family ties to a Hezbollah leader.
