First Alert Weather Day

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The WSFA First Alert Weather Team has declared tonight into tomorrow morning as a First Alert Weather day/night. Widespread severe weather looks likely across Central and South Alabama late Sunday night into early Monday morning.

The main threats are damaging winds and tornadoes. The Storm Prediction Center continues an Enhanced Risk for the region. In simple terms, the chance of severe weather is high enough that everyone should have a plan.A lot like yesterday, today is going to be a nice day. Temperatures will rise into the upper 70s and lower 80s for your afternoon highs. Wind is going to be a big talking point this afternoon as the National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory starting at 1 pm and continuing until tomorrow morning. Winds 10- 20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph at times.A line of strong to severe storms is expected to move into the area between about 11 PM tonight, then push across the region overnight. The storms should be moving fast, and most locations should see storms end by daybreak Monday. Because this is expected to be an organized, fast-moving line of storms, the biggest concern is widespread damaging straight-line winds. These winds can bring down trees and power lines and may lead to power outages, especially where the ground is soft or trees are weakened. Tornadoes are also a possibility, with a quick spin-up taking place within the line. But we’re also looking at a supercell out ahead of the front that could create a possible tornado... especially near and south of the I-85 corridor. This includes areas closer to and southeast of MontgomeryOnce the storms move out early Monday, strong winds may continue behind the cold front. A few leftover rain showers could even mix with snowflakes Monday morning in spots, but impacts are not expected because ground temperatures have been warm.A Freeze Warning is in effect for Monday night, with temperatures expected to fall below freezing. Another freeze is possible Tuesday night as well.First Alert: Seasonal Friday Gives Way to a Warmer Weekend
