A California father was arrested after allegedly shooting at the driver who fatally struck his 2-year-old son on Highway 33. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening, leading to a manhunt and the subsequent arrest of Elvis Zepeda.

A tragic incident unfolded on Highway 33 north of Crows Landing Road in Stanislaus County, California, on Tuesday, January 21st, around 8:30 p.m. A 2-year-old boy, later identified as Benjamin Zepeda, was struck by a BMW while standing on the west shoulder of the highway with his father, Elvis Zepeda, near a food truck. The driver of the BMW immediately stopped at the scene.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Elvis Zepeda then retrieved a handgun and fired several shots at the BMW, striking the rear of the vehicle. Benjamin Zepeda was taken to Doctors Medical Center, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries.Investigators from the Modesto CHP and Stanislaus County Auto Theft Task Force identified Elvis Zepeda as the shooter through collected evidence. He was subsequently arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of attempted murder, possession of an illegal firearm, and possession of a controlled substance.
