Philadelphia police are investigating a fatal shooting that took place in Kensington on Tuesday evening. Three suspects were taken into custody, including the suspected shooter who was found still holding a gun. The victim, a 40-year-old man, was pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital.
The Philadelphia Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in Kensington Tuesday evening. Just after 5 p.m., officers patrolling the intersection of H Street and West Morton streets heard two gunshots. Police say the officers noticed a man standing on the 3300 block armed with a gun in his hands. Upon approaching the man, officers took him into custody. Just feet away, they discovered a man lying between two parked cars suffering from gunshot wounds to his head.
Due to the unresponsive nature of the victim, police immediately took the 28-year-old suspected shooter into custody, as he was still holding a gun in his hand. The 40-year-old victim was rushed to Temple University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:35 p.m. Police say there were two other men with the suspected shooter who both also had handguns in their possession. Both were taken into custody and taken to police headquarters as persons of interest. A total of three handguns were recovered at the scene. According to preliminary information, the victim and suspected shooter knew one another. Cameras in the area did record the incident and are being reviewed. 'These two 24th district officers are part of the Kensington Avenue initiative and you see an increase in police presence, especially during the evening hours. And these two officers were in a marked vehicle doing their job,' said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small. 'These officers did a great job.' The identity of the 40-year-old victim has not been released yet. Police have not revealed the motive in the incident.
