A deadly school shooting in Wisconsin's state capital has captured the attention of politicians and leaders, with many using the tragedy to advocate for change.
Police were called to Abundant Life Christian School, a private K-12 school with about 390 students, shortly before 11 a.m. Monday for a report of an active shooter.in the shooting. The suspected shooter, a 17-year-old female student, likely died by suicide. Six others were wounded, leaving two in critical condition with life-threatening injuries and four with non-life-threatening injuries, Barnes said.
My administration has taken aggressive action to combat the gun violence epidemic. We passed the most significant gun safety legislation in nearly 30 years, I have taken more executive action to reduce gun violence than any other President in history, and I created the first-ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention. But more is needed. Congress must pass commonsense gun safety laws: Universal background checks. A national red flag law.
Kathy and I are also keeping in our hearts the first responders who acted quickly and ran toward danger to help save lives. This day will no doubt weigh heavily on them, and we are grateful for their critical response efforts in answering the call when they were needed most.
