Tom Cruise in Oblivion

Although it took some time, Alan Ritchson has become one of the biggest action stars in the world — figuratively and literally. The behemoth bodybuilder truly arrived as a star thanks to his work on Reacher, the hit Prime Video series based on the series of novels by Lee Child.

Tom Cruise previously tried to adapt the character into a pair of films that are still criticized to this day due to his lack of stature, which is portrayed in the books. Ritchson further developed his relationship with Prime Video late last year by starring in a comedic Reacher replacement for the streamer, Playdate, which co-stars Kevin James. Ritchson’s latest big sci-fi blockbuster is War Machine, which is now streaming on Netflix. It’s quickly become the streamer’s most popular movie since its premiere last Friday. War Machine is the latest in a long line of sci-fi movies with a Predator twist. Other entries in the franchise that immediately come to mind are Edge of Tomorrow and The Tomorrow War , which both feature military operatives working to take down an alien force. Tom Cruise also starred in another sci-fi movie, Oblivion, which has some obvious similarities to War Machine. While Oblivion is set in a much more post-apocalyptic world, the film still sees a talented soldier taking on a technologically advanced threat. It’s been 13 years since Oblivion first hit theaters, but the recent release of War Machine has fans rushing to either rewatch the film or check it out for the first time. It’s not streaming anywhere in America, but it’s back in the Apple TV VOD top 10 in several countries. What is ‘Reacher’s Alan Ritchson Working on Next? Alan Ritchson’s latest sci-fi movie is streaming around the world, but he isn’t slowing down anytime soon. He’s already wrapped production on his Christmas action movie, The Man With The Bag, which co-stars action icon Arnold Schwarzenegger. He’s also recently entered production on a new Navy SEAL action project co-starring Peaky Blinders star Joe Cole. He has a few more projects in the works, including Motor City, the revenge thriller set in the 1970s co-starring Shailene Woodley and Pablo Schreiber. Ritchson is even attached to star in Runner with Owen Wilson, which wrapped production late last year.
