Darnell Michael Puidokas, who leaves behind a 12-year-old son, was killed Saturday night in the parking lot of a west Birmingham Chevron. A 62-year-old man – Michael Kermit Murray – is charged with murder in the death of Puidokas.
“Our beloved Darnell was shot and killed this week while doing his job as a locksmith, over a price dispute,’’ according to the GoFundMe. “We’re all shocked and heartbroken that he was taken from us like that at a sudden moment.”Then, according to Puidokas’s family, both Murray and Puidokas had driven to the Chevron on Bessemer Road for Murray to use an ATM to get money to pay the locksmith.Birmingham police investigate a fatal shooting at the Chevron at 2161 Bessemer Road.
The victim’s mother, Michelle Puidokas, said her god son was on the phone with Puidokas throughout the job, the argument and the shooting. “Instead of handing my son the money, he tells my son, ‘Hand me the receipt,’’' Michelle Puidokas said. “My son said, ‘I’m not handing you no receipt until you give me my money.’’'“The sad thing is my god son was begging him to leave and take the loss,’’ she said. “It was a $200 job.”West Precinct officers were dispatched to the scene at 6:10 p.m. Saturday and Puidokas was pronounced dead at 6:26 p.m.
Detectives presented the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office which issued the murder warrant Monday morning.
