Four world premieres and a visit from Broadway's top-grossing play of all time highlight the fall season in San Diego
From plays about Anne Frank and Atticus Finch, and from grand opera to camp comedy: There’s a bit of everything on San Diego’s fall theater schedule. Here’s a look at what’s coming to a theater near you.Playwright Nathan Englander, whose play “What We Talk About When We Talk About Anne Frank” will premiere at the Old Globe in September.
Kristina Wong, costumed for her solo play “Kristina Wong, Sweatshop Overlord,” plays Sept. 20-Oct. 16 at La Jolla Playhouse.Named a finalist for the 2022 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, this solo comedy written by and starring performance artist Kristina Wong is based on the true story of how, in the early months of the pandemic, she mobilized the Auntie Sewing Squad, a work-from-home sweatshop of hundreds of volunteers who made thousands of face masks for those in need. Chay Yew will direct.
Ken Page, who won a 1978 Drama Desk Award for his performance in the original Broadway production of “Ain’t Misbehavin’,” is directing CCAE Theatricals’ production of this musical tribute to Thomas Wright “Fats” Waller, the 1920s jazz-era pianist, composer and singer.
