have welcomed four newly-hatched chicks to their nest on the roof of the Union County Courthouse in Elizabeth, and officials have welcomed the public to take a peek at the happy, feathered family.ucnj.org/falconThe Courthouse Tower nest has been occupied by a pair of peregrine falcons every year since 2006, county officials said. This year’s pair is watching over four young chicks, called eyases, who hatched at the end of April.

County officials touted the camera and said that in addition to the live video feed, it also features educational resources for teachers to download for use in their classrooms, information on how to protect peregrine falcons, which are on the state’s endangered species list and the ability to ask a wildlife biologist questions about the birds.

Union County has participated in helping increase the birds’ numbers since 2006, when a nesting box was installed on the courthouse tower roof under the guidance of state wildlife experts, according to the county.
