FAIRBANKS , Alaska - A Fairbanks woman is now facing a coercion charge after police originally said she attempted to kidnap and assault two children at the Big Dipper Ice Arena, which is owned and operated by the Fairbanks North Star Borough., has now been amended to coercion with fear of injury, which is a Class C felony, and two counts of assault and disorderly conduct.
Police said Charlie approached an 11-year-old and a 9-year-old on Dec. 8. While the 11-year-old was able to get away after falling, the police report said Charlie dragged the 9-year-old 20 to 30 feet before they were able to escape.Charlie has pleaded not guilty and remains in custody. In court Wednesday, prosecutors did not mention the new changes, only speaking about the next court hearing dates.
In general, kidnapping charges involve allegations of taking someone against their will, while coercion typically has to do with allegations of forcing someone to do something they would not normally do. Alaska’s News Source is still working to learn what prosecutors allege Charlie’s motive was and has requested an amended charging document.Alaskan missing in Hawaii after strong currents reported off Kaua’i beachWasilla police: man who groped multiple women in public arrestedFriends and family asking for support after Eagle River man loses leg in snowmachine incident
