The notes will be distributed on the Honor Flight home to Alaska, so that veterans can once again experience the excitement of 'Mail Call.'
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Every year, senior military veterans from around the country - including those in Alaska - are flown to Washington D.C. to visit the memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice. This year, local girl scouts are teaming up to make their experience even more special.
On Wednesday, the Farthest North Girl Scout Council began hosting a letter-writing and card-decorating station to send their thanks and appreciation with the 29 Alaskan veterans of this year’s Honor Flight. These notes will be distributed to the veterans during their flight home to Alaska from Washington D.C., so that they can once again experience the excitement of “mail call.”
If you are interested in lending a hand, please drop off your cards at the Farthest North Girl Scout Council building at 431 old Steese highway, or mail them directly to The Last Frontier Honor Flight P.O. Box 875021 Wasilla, AK 99687. The cards will be sent out on Sept. 18, so be sure to turn them in before that date.
