Parents of homeschooled children can also take advantage of these no-cost resources, which include science supplies.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Housed at the Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center, a prop closet and a lending library carry resources for teachers to use in their lessons.
The effort, run by FAPLIC, is designed to enhance the interactivity of children’s learning. “Part of the Alaska Public Lands Information Center’s mission is to educate people about the natural, cultural and historic resources, and we do that through interpretive programs, both ranger-led and teacher-led programs,” said Crowe.
Props include feathers, stuffed animals and paw replicas, among many other items. “Some of our most popular props that teachers can check out are mammal furs and mammal skulls,” Crowe said. Sometimes, props are even sent out to rural schools across the 49th State. “For that, teachers would just have to pay the cost of return shipping,” Crowe clarified.
