87 ballots were challenged in this year's municipal elections.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - At Thursday night’s regular meeting, the Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly voted unanimously to certify the results of the Oct. 1 municipal election s.
In a report given by Borough Clerk April Trickey, members were informed that out of nearly 20,000 ballots cast, 87 were challenged. These were disqualified for a variety of reasons, from the voter not being registered, to being registered in a different district, to registering late.Following certification, the assembly hosted the swearing-in of three of its members, as well as Borough Mayor-Elect Grier Hopkins and others.
Trickey performed the ceremony for assemblymembers Kristan Kelly and David Guttenberg, who currently hold seats, as well as Tammie Wilson, who had served previously on the Assembly.When the final ballots were counted on Oct. 8, Guttenberg and Kelly reacted to their winds, with the former saying, “It feels great. Elections are a tough thing. I’ve been doing it a long time. I’m sure this is my last time.
Kelly, meanwhile, said, “It’s such a relief, and I’m of course very happy and excited to get to work and excited for these next three years. I have some experience under my belt now, so I’m hoping to be more effective and to get things done.
