Several high-profile social media accounts have claimed the controversial congresswoman is hiring security for the first time.
Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene says her public split with her once close ally President Donald Trump, has resulted in a “hot bed of threats” toward the Georgian lawmaker. Newsweek has reached out to Greene’s press team for comment via email on Friday.
The Claim Several high-profile social media accounts have claimed that Greene has had to hire security for the first time since taking office because of her rift with Trump. Some accounts, such as “Hoodlum,” who has over 218,000 followers, said that “Marjorie Taylor Greene has been hated by the left for years and never feared for her life. She’s been hated by the right for two days and had to hire security.” Another account, Jamie Bonkiewicz, wrote in a post with over 50,000 views, “Weird how those of us on the Left have despised Marjorie Taylor Greene for years and she never needed security until yesterday, because of her own party.” The Facts In a November 15 X post, as their feud was still unraveling, Greene wrote, “I am now being contacted by private security firms with warnings for my safety as a hot bed of threats against me are being fueled and egged on by the most powerful man in the world.” I am now being contacted by private security firms with warnings for my safety as a hot bed of threats against me are being fueled and egged on by the most powerful man in the world. The man I supported and helped get elected.Aggressive rhetoric attacking me has historically…— Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene🇺🇸 November 15, 2025 The post does not specify her current security arrangements or whether she accepted any offers. The public break between Trump and the Georgia Republican marks a rare and significant fissure within the MAGA movement. Greene has served as one of Trump’s most influential surrogates, amplifying his message across the hard-right base and shaping grassroots activism. Recently, however, she has been among the GOP’s most outspoken internal critics, especially on foreign policy and the Jeffrey Epstein files, in which she signed onto a petition to force a vote to release them. Trump revoked his endorsement of Greene and publicly called her out in Truth Social posts, referring to her as “Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Green ” stating that she is “a disgrace to our GREAT REPUBLICAN PARTY!,” in a Saturday post. Greene, who was first elected in 2020, and then reelected in 2022 and 2024, has been a polarizing member of Congress. Her previous campaign records indicate that, showing expenses for personal security long before the Trump divide. In February 2025, Greene’s campaign spent $4,664 on Burglar Security Plus in Georgia. In a case against Joseph Morelli, who admitted to threatening Greene in 2023 for his actions the year prior, the lawmaker said she spent around $66,600 on security measures at her home, including more than 1,200 feet of fencing. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., speaks during a news conference on the Epstein Files Transparency Act, Tuesday, November 18, 2025, outside the U.S. Capitol in Washington. However, in 2022, the lawmakers’ campaign finance filings show she spent more on personal security in the early months than any other person running for office, according to The New York Times. The filings revealed that between January and May, Greene spent around $183,000 on private security firm KaJor Group. The lawmaker was spending around $41,000 per month on the global security firm. Prior to the 2022 election, she was reportedly spending around $1,000 monthly on security. Members of Congress from both parties have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on private security, citing rising threats of political violence and deepening polarization. The Ruling The claims that Greene first hired security following the president’s falling out and subsequent MAGA backlash is untrue. It is unconfirmed if she has changed or enhanced her security at all since the incident, but the lawmaker has previously paid for private security.
