The internet is filled with these kinds of tools, and we have yet to learn how they work or if they are accurate.

The photo, tweeted by Israel's official account and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office, sparked outrage and disbelief after it was reported that Hamas beheaded 40 Israeli babies in a recent attack. However, no proof of these gruesome killings has been released, and US President Joe Biden and some media outlets have retracted their statements.

Farid also used his image classifiers, trained on real and AI images, to analyze the photo. They classified it as real. He says this is similar to other AI tools he tried, which also said the photo is real. He explained that most of these automated tools ingest a bunch of images that are real and a bunch that are generated, and they train another AI system to learn the difference. He said that they are not very explainable and they are black boxes that come up with an answer. He said that at their best, they operate at 90 percent accuracy, which is pretty good, but they tend to suffer with out-of-domain images.
