Genevieve Lavigne, Cheyenne Toussaint, and Raphael Marchand from Étoile in front of lights.
The Prime Video show Étoile brings together a group of established actors and award-winning ballet dancers to tell a compelling story set in the world of professional ballet. Although she’s best-known for Gilmore Girls, Amy Sherman-Palladino has created many shows.
One of the most underrated is a short-lived show called Bunheads that focused on a small-town ballet school. Although Bunheads was cancelled after one season, her newest show, Étoile, feels like a continuation of the story, even though the narratives aren’t connected. Étoile tells the story of a Parisian and New York City ballet working together to save both companies. Creator Amy Sherman-Palladino’s passion for ballet is on full display in the Prime Video show, which factors into the mostly positive reviews for Étoile. Another strength of the ballet-centric drama is the on-screen talent. Sherman-Palladino is known for bringing actors from past projects onto her new series, and the Étoile is no exception. The ballet drama features actors from Gilmore Girls, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and Bunheads. Additionally, the project brings on experienced ballet dancers to fill many of the roles, offering an air of authenticity that’s necessary in this love letter to the art form.
