Thursday in Washington, D.C., the case surrounding Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick and her alleged campaign finance violations will be on full display

U.S. Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus McCormick was indicted on Wednesday, after being accused of stealing $5 million disaster funds, laundering the proceeds and using the money to support her 2021 congressional campaign, according to the United States Department of Justice .

The House Ethics Committee is holding a mini-trial, and they could make a summary judgment. That might spell trouble for Mccormick who is trying to hold on to her seat. She says she’s not guilty and will not resign, but if things go badly for her this afternoon, that could trigger a move by Republicans to try to expel her from Congress. There is "substantial evidence" against the Congresswoman: That’s how the House Ethics Committee described their findings last year. And Cherfilus-McCormick isn't just in hot water in Congress; she has also been indicted by the Justice Department. A federal Criminal trial is pending in Miami. The nature of the case is financial; she's accused of stealing federal disaster funds and funneling millions of dollars into her 2021 congressional campaign. To expel her, there would need to be a two-thirds vote in the House. If all republicans say she needs to be kicked out, about 80 democrats would have to join them to oust her from Capitol Hill.He was the sixth member in the history of the House of Representatives to be expelled. That was over campaign finance fraud as well. Here’s what to know as Thursday's hearing unfolds. There are four Democrats and four Republicans on the panel. They’ll meet at two o’clock today, and they’ll consider "a motion for summary judgment." Essentially, they could reach a verdict. The congresswoman says she did nothing wrong, but the committee has been highly critical of her unwillingness to cooperate with their probe.Stay with us over the course the day, this is certainly going to a pivotal moment for the congresswoman who has declined to talk about this with the519 Plaza on East Ridge Road could be deemed a public nuisance, pending an upcoming decision by the Irondequoit Town Board.Webster,N.Y. — Emergency responders are at the scene of a fire at a home on Holt Road near Shoemaker Road. The fire department says people were home at the timeA Batavia police sergeant, along with other first responders and bystanders, raced to pull a driver from a burning vehicle after a crash Monday. An Orleans County man faces a peeping tom charge in South Carolina after a woman said he left an audio recording device in her home.
