Man United manager Erik ten Hag could find it difficult to select his preferred midfield against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
When the team news dropped at 7pm on Tuesday evening, it would be fair to say that some Manchester United supporters were left scratching their heads.
With full-back options increasingly limited, Ten Hag was left with no choice but to deploy the Fiorentina loanee as an emergency left-back. He had, however, played in the position before, albeit a long time ago. Should Reguilon recover from illness in time for Saturday's Premier League clash with Palace at Old Trafford, it is possible that Amrabat could start in midfield. That decision, however, rests on a collection of other factors.
Should Ten Hag deploy his preferred 4-3-3 system, Amrabat, provided Reguilon returns, could move into midfield and partner Casemiro at the base of it, with Mount roaming in a more advanced role. The latter, however, is more fruitful when operating as a deep-lying No.8, just as he did against Roy Hodgson's side in midweek.
