Netflix has released its final interview with Eric Dane in a 50-minute conversation titled Famous Last Words: Eric Dane, in which the actor shares his final words for his family and his fans. The actor best known for playing Dr.
Mark Sloan, otherwise known as McSteamy, on the long-running medical series Grey's Anatomy, sadly passed away 10 months after revealing his ALS diagnosis. Famous Last Words: Eric Dane has been released on Netflix today after the tragic news of the actor's passing yesterday. The interview was conducted with the agreement that it"would only be shared with the world after he passed." The series began last year with a posthumous interview with Dr. Jane Goodall. Netflix released the interview along with the statement: "Prior to his death, Eric Dane sat for an interview with the understanding that it would only be shared with the world after he passed. In that conversation, he reflected on his battle with ALS, his struggles with addiction, and his marriage to Rebecca Gayheart: 'I will never, by the time anybody sees this, have fallen in love with another woman as deeply as I fell in love with Rebecca.'" During the interview, Dane opened up about his diagnosis of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, otherwise known as ALS, which is a progressive, fatal neurodegenerative disease that destroys motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. ALS can cause loss of movement, speech, swallowing, and breathing, and as of writing, no known cure exists. At the end of the interview, the actor addresses his daughters, Billie and Georgia: "These words are for you. I tried. I stumbled sometimes, but I tried. Overall, we had a blast, didn’t we? I remember all the times we spent at the beach, the two of you, me, and mom — in Santa Monica, Hawaii, Mexico. I see you now playing in the ocean for hours, my water babies. Those days, pun intended, were heaven. I want to tell you four things I’ve learned from this disease, and I hope you don’t just listen to me. I hope you’ll hear me." The actor continues by sharing some wisdom with his daughters, with four lessons to live, fall in love, choose your friends wisely, and fight with dignity, before ending the interview with"Billie and Georgia, you are my heart. You are my everything. Good night. I love you. Those are my last words." Grey's Anatomy co-stars have shared their thoughts regarding the shocking news and to remember Dane during their time working alongside him, with co-star Patrick Dempsey sharing the ALS charity, I AM ALS, in the hope of finding a cure to end ALS and to prevent future tragedies.
