Epic, clearly prepared for Apple's reaction to its update, released a video parodying Apple's famous 1984 commercial usingcharacters and spreading the hashtag #FreeFortnite, drawing mixed reactions from players and industry insiders. Epic isn't alone in its criticism of Apple's policy: Facebook and Spotify also took aim at the $2 trillion tech giant, which requires all developers to use the App Store's payment system to ensure it can take a 30% cut from all purchases.

In July, Epic's billionaire co-founder and CEO Tim Sweeney told Protocol,"To say that the fact that they have some costs justifies taking 30% of a company's revenue and preventing other companies from competing with them is absolutely abhorrent.
