ENTERPRISE – Following in the footsteps of her stepfather who was a football player at Purdue University, Morgan Williams of Enterprise High signed with the Big 10 powerhouse volleyball program on Thursday.

JON JOHNSON

She will be an early enrollee in January at Purdue, located in West Lafayette, Indiana. The Boilermakers are currently ranked No. 9 in the nation and competing in the NCAA Tournament this week. “I would say number one is my mom ,” Williams said. “I look up to her because she’s such a strong woman.”“This day means a lot to me,” Williams said. “Having everyone who has supported me here … it’s so surreal.

“I was always very tall and long, and so I didn’t really have much option,” Williams said of sports. “It was either basketball or this, and I really wanted to play a sport in college. I was like, ‘Let me try this out,’ and it just kind of went from there.” “She had a goal as a sophomore and said, ‘I want to play Division I and I want to go big.’ I said, ‘Well, you’ve got to put in the work.’ And she did.”“During lunch the last two years, she would come to office and watch game film,” Graham said. “And not to watch herself necessarily do great things; but watch herself for what she needed.

Final decisionAfter Purdue’s head coach Dave Shondell and Jewell saw Williams play at a spring camp for the Deep South Volleyball Club, Williams accepted a visit to the Purdue campus late in the spring and would commit in July.
