The victory helped Enterprise repeat as Class 7A, Region 2 champion. The Wildcats will host the first round of the 7A state tournament next Friday (Jan. 17) against Fairhope.
With three individual matches left, the Enterprise Wildcats boys wrestling team trailed Smiths Station in the Class 7A, Region 2 Duals championship on Thursday afternoon at the Panthers gym in Smiths Station.The heart and soul of the Wildcat roster was coming up in those final three matches.
People are also reading… The Dothan Wolves also competed at the meet, falling in the opener to Prattville 59-21 and beating third-seeded Auburn 44-30 in a second match. Enterprise’s Gavin Whiteside and Bayani Galvez won the 190 and 106 weight classes. Whiteside took a 17-2 tech fall decision over Amari Allen and Galvez pinned Blake Satterwhite in 1:07.
Stiffler upped the advantage to 9-3 on a takedown in the second period and added a reversal in the third period to take an 11-3 victory and give Enterprise a 33-32 lead in the team match. In the semifinal against Prattville, Enterprise had eight wrestlers win, including pinfalls from Braman, Sigmon, Whiteside, Galvez, Karter Stiffler and Kameron Stiffler.
In the Auburn dual, Jaylon Ward , Cooper Hall and Cole Motzenbecker , three wrestlers with 30 or more wins, all lost. Ward lost a 10-8 decision to Austin Gamston, Hall lost on a first-period pin to John Adams and Motzenbecker lost a 12-5 decision to Maciej Paszek.After Motzenbecker’s loss at 150 opened the dual, Malcolm White, who has surged since the Christmas break, and Zach Walker earned second-period wins at 157 and 165 with White pinning Caison Coburn and Walker pinning Connor Cyr .
