Houston Academy faces Eufaula in the first semifinal on Monday at 5:30 p.m. Providence Christian plays Dothan at 7 p.m. Georgiana’s Noah Nelson hit three free throws after being fouled on a 3-point attempt to tie the game at 55 with 4:05 left. An offensive foul on Coleman in the lane gave Georgiana the ball back, but the Panthers’ Cheatham had a shot blocked by Josh Lee and had a putback rim off. The ball bounced away from the lane and rolled past the three-point line at the top of the key and Dothan’s Berry recovered it on the floor and quickly called time out with 2:20 left.
In addition to his 24 points, Berry also had seven rebounds, four assists and four steals for Dothan. Coleman had 16 points, three assists and three steals. Johnson followed with seven points and five rebounds. The Wolves scored on the period’s last three possessions – a jumper by Coleman off a screen, a drive by Berry and a layup by Johnson – then took the lead at 48-47 when Coleman hit two technical free throws after a Georgiana player was called for a technical foul as the teams were heading to the bench after the third-quarter horn.
While HA was on fire on 3-pointers, Carroll struggled outside, especially early. The Eagles were 0-of-8 on 3-pointers in the first half and made 4-of-19 overall.Michael Culver had 20 points and N’jai Gosha, the Eagles’ 6-foot-8 post player, had 15 points and 12 rebounds for Carroll with the two players doing most of the damage inside. Dezmon Pruitt followed with 14 points.
The Eagles raced to an 10-0 lead in the first four minutes. Luke Strickland had two baskets, including a 3-pointer, and Cas Boone added a three-pointer and Pearce Boone hit two free throws. The Rebels had a chance to cut it closer on the opening play of the third quarter, but a steal by Providence Christian’s Calvin McClintock ruined the opportunity. McClintock then hit a free throw and added a layup a play later after a nice pass inside by Cas Boone, pushing the Eagles up eight.
Eufaula 66, Headland 52After the Headland Rams made a second-half charge, the Eufaula Tigers roared away to the win, its fourth straight win after an 1-8 start to the season.
