After nearly four decades, Arun's Thai Restaurant on Chicago’s Northwest Side is closing its doors, marking the end of an era for its loyal patrons and upscale dining scene. Arun's Thai Restaurant, located at 4156 N Kedzie Avenue, has attracted foodies from around the world for years, but the owner said it’s time to close. Customers are calling it bittersweet. On Sunday, the walls were adorned with several paintings by the owner's brother, including a mural depicting a scene hours before the enlightenment of Buddha.About 40 guests enjoyed a nine-course meal on the final day before the restaurant closed for good. One couple, celebrating their 17th wedding anniversary, reflected on the restaurant’s legacy. In the 90s, I remember my friends talking about it, but I was too poor to come here,' said one customer. After 39 years in business, Sampanthavivat said his journey is fulfilled and complete. 'Not a single day more because I'm 78 and you know, before you know it, I could be 80,' Sampanthavivat said. 'I don't want to wait. I'm quitting when I can.'The owner plans to sell the building and paintings in Albany Park before relocating back to Thailand for retirement
