The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) has announced a significant expansion of the Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, doubling its size with the recent acquisition of a 3,073-acre property adjacent to the park in Llano County. The $43 million purchase, funded by the Centennial Parks Conservation Fund, will open up a vast expanse of previously private land for public use and recreational opportunities.
This expansion not only increases the amount of publicly accessible land at Enchanted Rock but also introduces a new rock formation that promises a unique vantage point of the park's iconic pink granite dome. Previously, the acquired land was primarily utilized for private hunting. The TPWD intends to collaborate with the public to determine the most suitable recreational activities for the newly incorporated area.
