Aquaman undergoes a dramatic transformation in the comics, becoming Emperor Aquaman and embarking on a cosmic mission. Empowered by Alpha Energy and a connection to the mystical Blue, Arthur Curry's role expands beyond Atlantis to encompass the protection of all worlds connected by the seas, with a new focus on galactic exploration and expansion.

Following the end of the Jason Momoa DCEU era, Aquaman 's new status quo in the comics could be perfect for a brand-new version in the DCU. Taking on an exciting new title and powers, the dawn of a new era has come for the King of Atlantis with a major expansion.

Thanks to the events of the recently concluded DC K.O., Aquaman has come out of the major tournament with powerful upgrades and a new mission, elevating him well beyond his more classic role as an undersea king. In The Wake Of DC K.O., Emperor Aquaman Is Born As seen in DC's ongoing Aquaman series with the newly retitled Emperor Aquaman #15, the new issue confirms exactly that: Arthur Curry has officially evolved from King of Atlants to Emperor via a massive expansion to his rule. After defeating Darkseid in DC K.O. #5, Superman chose to share his cosmic power as King Omega with his fellow heroes. Aquaman was among those champions, receiving"Alpha Energy" which granted visions of the future tied to Arthur's newfound connection to the mystical force known as The Blue, representing not just the life force of the oceans on Earth, but also the shores and seas of other worlds too. As such, that concept now serves as the foundation for Aquaman's new mission in the DC Universe, seeking to protect all worlds in the galaxy connected by The Blue and expand Atlantis like never before. This brand-new title for Aquaman reflects a dramatic shift in his ambition, calling upon his people to head for the stars. As such, readers should expect some major shifts to the typical status quo in future issues. After all, the cover art for Emperor Aquaman #15 sees Arthur traversing the galaxy riding none other than the cosmic starfish Starro. Admittedly, the concept does bear a striking resemblance to Black Panther's Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda in the Marvel Universe. Regardless, the idea of Aquaman leading a civilization of ocean-faring explorers into the far reaches of space is still pretty exciting all the same. After Jason Momoa, Aquaman's New Status Quo Could Be Perfect For The DCU It's worth noting that Aquaman’s evolving role in the comics is coming at an interesting moment for the character when it comes to the recently rebooted DCU. In the previous DCEU largely envisioned by Zack Snyder, Jason Momoa played Arthur Curry's Aquaman in live-action across multiple films. Although Momoa's work with DC is far from over following the end of DCEU, it seems as though his time as Aquaman has indeed concluded now that Momoa's playing the intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo in Supergirl. Keeping that in mind, it's possible that this brand-new storyline in the comics could become a source of exciting inspiration for the eventual reboot of the hero in the DCU. After all, a live-action Aquaman connected to The Blue and tasked with protecting all oceans not just on Earth but across the galaxy, would certainly help differentiate Aquaman from Momoa's version. At any rate, it's still pretty cool to see Aquaman's classic role evolving to the next level on the page. While he's always been a bridge between the surface world and the seas, it looks as though Emperor Aquaman is now ready to extend the bridge by connecting entire worlds together via his new powers through The Blue.
