The Elyria Post Office plans to implement a new shift schedule next month that carriers fear could lead to more nighttime deliveries.

ELYRIA, Ohio - The Elyria Post Office plans to implement a new shift schedule next month that carriers fear could lead to more nighttime deliveries. According to David Lozano , retired mail-carrier and President of Branch 196 of the National Association of Letter Carriers, staff’s start times will begin at 9 a.

m. beginning on March 7th. “They’ll be starting at 9 a.m., they’ll be finishing at around 5:30 p.m., typical eight-hour day,” he explained. “But the problem is, because we’re understaffed on the carrier staff. A lot of people are forced to work overtime, so that puts them later into the evening.”“That’s crazy, because at that time, I want to be home with my family,” Henry. 19 News reached out to the USPS for a statement regarding the changes. A spokesperson responded saying that the start times have been adjusted to better align with our operations. Lozano went on to say negotiations between mail carrier unions and the Postal Service are currently ongoing at a national level.“I don’t know why they’re sitting on their hands and not staffing properly,” he said. The staff shortage is also applying more pressure on those currently available, forcing them to make changes outside of work. “We do have single parents and now they have to find daycare facilities that are open later for them,” Lozano said. As mail carriers prepare for their new schedules, they’re asking neighbors to be aware of, and not be alarmed by mail staff completing their routes late into the night. “The customers might not be expecting someone on their properties at these times, these unconventional times,” Lozano said.“My porch light will be on and I’ll be keeping an eye out for the mail people,” she said.Mentor Rocks 2026 concert lineup features multiple national recording artistsBody of man discovered in Akron woods ID’d as former inmate released from prison weeks before he was found‘Sauna Cleveland’ destroyed in crash, owner vows to reopen
