Elton John performs at Prudential Center in Newark Feb. 25, 2022 on his "Farewell Yellow Brick Road" Tour. is generally a very present performer, urging the crowd to sing along, leaping from his piano just as a song ends to accept his standing ovation and slamming the baby grand’s lid in “how do you like that, huh?!” triumph.
But then there are moments when the rock luminary appears to go somewhere else, to lose himself in the expansive, clanking piano breaks of “Rocket Man” or “Levon.” It’s never long, maybe 15 or 30 seconds, before he returns to the arena stage, glancing back to the crush of 15,000 diehards and flashing his famous gap-toothed grin.
