A Lancaster County school district is facing some difficult decisions to help recoup a nearly $1 million budget deficit s its facing. According to a release from the Elizabethtown School District, despite a proposed 2% tax increase for the "general operating budget", a deficit of $933,506 would remain.
Due to this, the district said the following positions would not be filled for the 2025-2026 school year:1 administrator of Curriculum and Federal Programs Coordinator"Scaling back" the one-on-one "Personalized Learning Initiative" by eliminating the program at the elementary levelCutting some extracurricular activitiesFinding "alternative uses" for the state's Ready to Learn grant the district received that was previously designated to find the hybrid full-day kindergarten program The 2025-2026 school budget reflects many of the same financial pressures our families face—rising costs for fuel, supplies, insurance, utilities, and contracted services. Uncontrollable expenses, such as special education, cyber charter school tuition, and employee healthcare, have also strained the District’s finances.
