The future makeup of the Los Angeles City Council could begin getting some clarity this evening — though a full resolution will likely have to wait until November.are heading to the polls today — at least those who haven’t yet cast ballots — to decide who they want to represent them.
While voters have been casting ballots for weeks, Tuesday, June 7, is officially Election Day. The polls close at 8 p.m., with the early returns — comprising vote-by-mail ballots that arrived by Election Day — expected shortly after. Council Districts 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13 and 15 are up for grabs, though five of those races have incumbents running for reelection.
And in all but one of those races — District 13 — there are only two candidates, meaning today’s primary election will decide the winner. In the four races with at least three candidates, the top-two finishers will head to a runoff in November unless one person receives a majority of the votes this time around.Councilman Gil Cedillo is seeking his third term representing an area that includes Glassell Park, Highland Park, Mount Washington, Westlake, Chinatown and Pico-Union. Cedillo is facing community activist and public policy advocate Eunisses Hernandez.
