California Office of Traffic Safety granted funds to the department for programs that will run through next September
The El Cajon Police Department has received a $115,000 grant to improve safe driving conditions through programs that include DUI checkpoints and enforcing laws related to cell phone use speeding and failing to stop at red lights. The grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will run through next September.
It will also be used to enforce violations that are the frequent causes of crashes, such as driving over the speed limit and failing to yield or stop at intersections, as well as to fund collaboration with other local departments. “This grant funding allows us to support our ongoing traffic safety efforts in the community,” Sgt. Eric Thornton said via email.
