Ackley Bridge was filmed at St. Catherine's Catholic High School in Halifax
The building that was once St. Catherine's Catholic High School, closed in 2013. Three years later, Channel 4 producers decided to make use of the forgotten property as a set for its new drama.
Located in Halifax, the school shut down 11 years ago, after being deemed surplus to educational uses, as reported by What’s The Jam. Before becoming the iconic Ackley Bridge Academy school, the building also had a short stint on CBBC. The 2014 drama, Hank Zipzer, was filmed at the site, which posed as the Westbrook Academy during the three-season-long show.
Fans of the show have been left stunned by the clip. One person said: “Why do they let sets turn into this, what if they wanted to bring it back. They could have used it as a real school.”
