Eduardo Hernández will make nearly $292,000 a year under his newest contract approved this week. One trustee, Michael Valdez, dissented.
After presenting a “ Congratulations ” banner to Superintendent Eduardo Hernández for being Superintendent of the Year for a multi-county Texas Education Agency administrative region, the Edgewood Independent School District board extended his contract to 2029 and raised his salary to $291,923.
Now entering his seventh year, Hernández has faced the challenge of shrinking enrollment in one of the county’s poorest districts and convinced a board majority last year to take the painful step of closing two schools. The Texas Association of School Boards on July 1 named Hernández the top superintendent in the TEA Region 20. The statewide winner will be picked from five other finalists and announced Sept. 28.
