The Eastside YMCA celebrated a grand reopening after years of closure, marking a significant milestone for the community. The facility was forced to shut down its branches in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with only the Eastside Y remaining operational. However, with the collective efforts of community members, city officials, non-profit organizations, and elected leaders, coupled with federal funding, the Y was able to make a remarkable comeback.

This program aims to enhance community well-being by providing families in need with access to fresh produce and essential staples at no cost. The Healthy Hubs, established through this program, offer a comprehensive range of resources, including fresh fruits and vegetables, recipe cards, cooking utensils, nutrition education workshops, and guidance on making the most of the received produce. The Eastside YMCA Healthy Hub location received a two-year grant from Cook Children's Center for Community Health, which will support educational sessions focused on nutrition, physical activity, sleep, and other lifestyle choices that promote overall health. The YMCA president and CEO, Mike Brown, expressed gratitude for the numerous partners and supporters who contributed to restoring this vital resource for the Eastside community. He emphasized the YMCA's commitment to fostering thriving communities and their anticipation for continued progress in the next phases of the project. While the YMCA still seeks to raise additional funds to complete the full three-phase, $16 million project, the community and the Y are currently basking in the joy of a triumphant return
