One man was arrested and another seriously injured Tuesday morning as authorities chased a carjacking suspect on Interstate 80 from Contra Costa County through Solano County.
“The worker, who was employed by a subcontractor hired by Caltrans, was transported to Kaiser Vacaville with major injuries,” the CHP reported. His condition was unavailable at press time.
The suspect, later identified as Damani Mathews Jr., 29, of Oakland, ran off and was later captured in the 5700 block of Cherry Glen Road by Solano sheriff’s deputies with the aid of CHP air support. Mathews suffered minor injuries and was medically evaluated at a local hospital. He was eventually booked into Solano County Jail on suspicion of resisting arrest, possession of a stolen vehicle, evading a peace officer, hit and run resulting in an injury and violating the terms of his parole.An arraignment is set for 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Solano County Superior Court in Fairfield.
