A devastating fire in Warwick Township has displaced multiple people after burning through 24 apartments at the Newport Commons Sunday morning.Firefighters arrived to find an out of control fire with flames billowing through the roof of the building.
Fire crews are still on scene working to extinguish the flames. Officials say no injuries were reported in the fire, and all residents have been accounted for. The fire commissioner on scene confirmed to CBS21 that 40 people have been displaced as a result of the fire. The Red Cross was on scene around 6am, and helped 22 people; 21 adults and a child with emergency lodging and supplies. The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal is currently investigating a cause. Officials on scene say they believe the fire started on a patio, and was easily spread through the building due to the oil based vinyl siding used to cover the complex. Anyone with information about the fire or may need help as a result of the fire can contact Northern Lancaster County Regional Police Department thru Lancaster County Wide Communications.
